Davido fails to perform due to ‘3am traffic’...

Davido failed to turn up for Olamide’s OLIC2. Photo: Filed As top music acts stormed Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos last night, December 27 for the second edition of Olamide Live In Concert, #OLIC2, Davido was dramatically missing from those who thrilled fans. The HKN boss, who was one of the headline acts, was expected to mount the stage like all others while the hosts kept announcing that he will be coming up soon. Even while the concert was coming to an end, the host kept assuring that Davido was still on his way and will be coming in shortly but the singer never turned up. An excuse was later given that the ‘Gobe’ singer was hooked in traffic. This was around 3am. Many of the audience were heard lamenting where traffic was at that time of the day....

Biafra: kanu's Apology To Buhari "A Blatant Lie” – Kanu’s Brother

Biafra: kanu's Apology To Buhari "A Blatant Lie” – Kanu’s Brother

Prince Kanu, a brother to the director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has called the report on an apology rendered to the Nigerian president by his brother “a blatant lie”.
Director, Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu
Speaking to news correspondence, Prince said the report is an attempt to call bluff all effort to get justice for his brother.
“That is blatant lie, when and how? Where did the person see him to get the apology from?” Prince said.
He added that the articled as published by Punch is an attempt to sell their newspaper.
“I will put it as Punch’s propaganda, a Lagos-Ibadan expressway propaganda to sell their papers,” he said.
He said report on his brother’s apology is also weird.
“It is a very strange an weird report because I have been in communication with my brother (Nnamdi Kanu) and as far as I am concerned he did not grant any interview to anybody and never made a statement apologizing to anybody,”Prince added.
He said: “So, only God knows where the junk is coming from.”
Also, Kanu’s lawyer, Vincent Obetta has also debunked claims that his client made such confessions.
He said the report is a propaganda by the Nigerian government, an indication that the government was trying everything possible to destroy Kanu’s defence.
The apology, the Punch reported was contained in a statement which the 48-year-old pro-Biafra agitator made available to the DSS on October 23.
On the report, Kanu was said to have apologized to President Muhammadu Buhari for calling him a pedophile among other things.
After being granted bail by a Magistrate Court and subsequently by a Federal High Court, Kanu is currently being detained by the State Security Service (SSS) over allegations of managing an unlawful society, unlawful possession of firearms and assisting in the management of unlawful society, all punishable under Section 27 (b) (1) of the Firearms Act CAP F28 and Section 63 of the Criminal Code Act, CAP C38 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria.

Shehu Sani Speaks About His Suspension

Lai Mohammed Speaks On Suicide Bombing In Nigeria

Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the minister of information and culture, has revealed that contrary to popular theories regarding suicide bombings by Boko Haram in Nigeria, the female suicide bombers are not usually indoctrinated.
Lai Mohammed
The information minister made this disclosure while reacting to questions surrounding the recent spate of bombings perpetrated by teenage girls.
He revealed that most female suicide bombers being used by the Boko Haram sect are unaware that they are carrying bombs.
According to the Mohammed’s statement made on Tuesday, December 29, the bombs are usually given to the girls as parcels to be delivered in a busy place while a man would stand at a distance to detonate the bombs.
“Suicide bombers usually walk in threes. There is the man who leads. The leader will ensure that the small girl who is strapped with the bomb knows the road. The small girl never knows what she is carrying.
“She is simply told to go and deliver a parcel at a market. That leader would have taken her to the market days before to show her the direction of the market. On the day she is to deliver the package, the man will lead and by then she is strapped.
“Then there is another person that tails her from behind who will make sure that she doesn’t change her mind or turns in another direction. These bombs are detonated remotely. This is how cowardly these people are. These girls are not indoctrinated. Most of them don’t know what they are carrying. Some of them do it for as little as N5, 000 which is given to their parents,” Mohammed said.
Leadership reports that Mohammed made his assertions at the corporate headquarters of Punch Nigeria Limited in Magboro, Ogun state.
Lai Mohammed who believes that Boko Haram has already been defeated despite their latest isolated bomb attacks, has said that

Shehu Sani's Suspension Upheld By Kaduna APC

The suspension of Senator Shehu Sani has been upheld by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna state.

Senator Shehu Sani suspended by Kaduna APC
The state publicity secretary of the party, Tanko-Wusono who affirmed the suspension on Tuesday noted that the leadership had no option but to uphold his suspension at the ward level, The Punch reports.
He said: “We hereby uphold the suspension of Comrade (Senator) Shehu Sani as a member of the party for the period of 11 months.
“By this suspension, he is to desist from all party activities until when the suspension is lifted.
“The party calls on all its members to be law abiding as we move forward to fulfil our campaign promises.”
According to him, the party had run out options to bring the senator to order, noting that all efforts to make Sani appear before the party’s leadership to clarify certain issues had failed.
Tanko-Wusono listed some of Sani’s offences to include; “undue criticisms of policies and programmes of government both at the federal and state levels and heaping insults and abuses on party leaders through various media platforms.”
He also accused Sani of reckless statement against the Nigerian Army over the clash with members of the Shi’ite sect.

N1.84trn Borrowing: Buhari, APC Driving Nigeria To Be Like Greece – PDP

N1.84trn Borrowing: Buhari, APC Driving Nigeria To Be Like Greece – PDP

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday berated President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress, APC-led government, saying with government’s proposed plan to borrow N1.84 trillion to finance the 2016 budget deficit, Nigeria as a country was going the way of Greece.
Speaking with journalists Tuesday in Abuja, National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, noted that a breakdown of the N1.84 trillion shows that Nigeria would be borrowing N5 billion a day for the next 365 days, starting from January I, 2016, without what he termed, a corresponding provision for economic production and a clear repayment plan, adding that the move would spell doom for the future of the nation.

The main opposition party, therefore, challenged the Federal Government to a public and open debate on the budget devoid of sentiments of the APC-controlled National Assembly.
Metuh continued, “Some people may be wondering why we raised the alarm about the budget. The reason is simple. When we analysed the budget, we discovered it is a misshapen attempt at a Keynesian economics of applying deficit spending to stimulate growth even when studies have proven that GDP growth rates decrease by over 50% when debt goes from low or moderate to high. But then we know the borrowing here is to pay huge campaign debt and fund a political war chest.
“By every standard, this budget is a booby trap against the nation. When you break down the proposed N1.84 trillion borrowing, you discover that it amounts to borrowing N5 billion everyday for the 365 days in 2016. The questions are: for what specific projects are they borrowing N5 billion per day and how do they intend to pay back?
“The President should explain to Nigerians how they intend to pay back the loan. Is it by continuous borrowing to service the interests, and does he intend to accumulate colossal debt for future generations of Nigerians?
“The truth is that this administration cannot justify this proposal. There is no known economy in the world where you can justify borrowing N1.84 trillion without specific projects and precise repayment outline.
“This is worse still in an oil-driven, mono-economy at a time crude oil is selling at $30 dollars per barrel and is speculated to go down to about $20 dollars or even lower in the next one year.
“The idea can only come when you diversify the economy and boost production capacity in manufacturing and other critical sectors, a direction, which the budget clearly failed to provide.
“From all indicators, the borrowing will be negative. They are driving us to be like Greece, and to plunge us into unnecessary debt. When the PDP took office in 1999, we achieved the cancellation of inherited debts.”

Buhari To Spend N1.4bn On Travels In 2016, N189m To Change Tyres

Buhari To Spend N1.4bn On Travels In 2016, N189m To Change Tyres

A further breakdown of the N6.1 trillion 2016 budget indicates that the government intends to spend N39 billion in running the Office of the President with major allocations going to car purchase at N3.9 billion and another N189 million to change tyres for some specified vehicles in the Presidency.
The breakdown published by Vanguard newspaper shows that the vehicles that will gulp the budgeted sum for tyres include Mercedes Benz (bullet proof and plain), Toyota cars, trucks Land Cruiser SUV, Prado SUV, Hilux, Peugeot 607 and 406, BMW trucks, ambulances as well as utility and operational vehicles.

The budget also provides for the purchase of BMW saloon cars at N3.63 billion. The purpose for the cars were, however, not stated.
The Presidency will also spend about N1.4 billion on travels during the fiscal year, according to the budgetary provisions.
Vanguard noted that the State House budget also contains a repeat of projects the administration of ex-president Goodluck Jonathan repeatedly allocated funds for. An example is the purchase of computers, which has featured in budgets of the previous government each year.
In 2016, the State House will spend N27. 5 million on computers, while N268.9 will finance computer software acquisition.
Aso Rock will spend N764.7 million on recreational activities.
The installation of electrical lighting and fittings, which received substantial allocations in 2014 and 2015, will gulp N618.6 million next year.
The budget is subject to the approval of the National Assembly.

Nigerian student killed in Cyprus, allegedly by other Nigerians (Photos)

Nigerian student killed in Cyprus, allegedly by other Nigerians (Photos)

The story is a bit weird and a little confusing. According to reports from other Nigerian students in Cyrus, Ebinabo Mendeinyo (pictured left) was allegedly stabbed to death by other Nigerians in Cyrus on Dec. 26th at his student apartment. The initial story was that he jumped from the 6th floor of his apartment building out of fear when the boys came to confront him, but the Cyprus police have ruled that out after they found stab wounds on his body.

Jerry Udumioh, aka MC Jerry, a popular comedian and event host (pictured right in handcuffs) was the first person the police arrested in connection with the murder according to a LIB source.
Ebinabo is believed to have been stabbed multiple times by about six boys. They allegedly first drove to his friend’s house, kidnapped him and forced him to take them to Ebi’s house. They made him knock so that the victim would open the door without suspecting. When Ebi opened they door, he was allegedly stabbed and his throat slit.
The reason for the murder hasn’t been made clear but a LIB source said the fight started the previous day at a Christmas party and it was over a Zimbabwean girl and some folks feeling disrespected. Someone got stabbed at the club that night, and the fight was taken to Ebi’s house the following day.
Jerry has been charged with ‘trespassing’, kidnapping and serious assault.

Kaduna APC Suspends Senator Shehu Sani For 11 Months

Kaduna APC Suspends Senator Shehu Sani For 11 Months

Senator Shehu Sani representing Kaduna Central senatorial zone was suspended by the Tudun Wada ward of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna state on Monday, December 28.
The APC in Kaduna state suspended Senator Shehu Sani for 11 months.
Premium Times reports that the senator was suspended for 11 months and was also banned from engaging in party activities in the state during this period.
In a letter to Sani dated December 27, the APC listed the senator’s offences, which included making statements that allegedly “violate the rules of engagement of the party, factionalizing the party, and engaging in anti-party activities by criticizing the policies of Governor Nasir El-Rufai.”
The letter was signed by Ahmed Abdulhamid, the secretary of the ward, Auwal Mai Anguwa, the public relations officer, and Aminu Alilan, an ex-officio member.
“Hardly a week passes by that his group will not be on air criticizing and challenging the enduring legacies of Mallam Nasir ElRufai, that his statement on national issues is not in conformity with that of the state government and government of Kaduna state,” the letter read in part.
Reacting to the suspension, Suleiman Ahmed, the senator’s aide, noted that those who wrote the letter want to stop Sani from voicing his views about what he considers the anti-people policies of El-Rufai’s administration.
“They are toeing the line of the state secretariat of the party.
“So our reaction is that those that wrote this letter are ignorant of the party’s constitution and they are dancing to the tune of the state executive of the party and Governor Nasir El-Rufai,” Ahmed added.
Sani has always been very outspoken over some of Governor El-Rufai’s policies. A few weeks ago, organised by the state government, accusing the governor of being insensitive to the plight of local people by organising a music festival when the state and the country face economic and security challenges.

Why Electricity Consumers Would Pay More Tariff — Amadi

Why Electricity Consumers Would Pay More Tariff — Amadi

Just days ago, Sam Amadi and other commissioners in the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) ended their tenure with the commission. In a live interview monitored by Lucky Vincent, Naij.com’s correspondent, Amadi who served as the chairman of the commission explains in this interview why electricity consumers would have to pay more from February 1 as well as why metering customers are very necessary.

Excerpts:

What is the rationale behind the recent increase in electricity tariff in Nigeria?

As you may know, we’ve had extensive consultations with stakeholders, operators about this tariff. So it was expected that it would come and we took time to explain to Nigerians the reasons for this tariff. Basically, there is always the need to make sure that at any time that the tariff being charged for electricity services are in line with the cost profile of the industry as they change.
In January, we froze the residential consumers’ tariff because we expected some increase in gas supply. And we said that the freezing of the residential consumers’ tariff would be reviewed later in the year, it should have happened on June 1st, but because a good government was setting in and it was irresponsible to take such major policy, it was delayed and worked out with stakeholders over time.
So right now, we have a tariff finalised that addresses the commitment of government to improved service, ensure more hours of power supply, ensure metre rule-out, remove fixed charge so that people can only pay for what they consume, and entrench a dispute settlement system that allows customers, who are over-estimated, not to pay that over-estimation but to pay their historic bills. This is a tariff that resets the existing market for higher efficiency and now takes into consideration our need to have more quantities and also create a market where customers can be much more satisfied.

The House of Representatives recently asked NERC to suspend an increase in electricity tariff until its probe into the operations in the sector is concluded. The ad-hoc committee said it had communicated to you on this. What changed?

The simple fact is that we had met before the various House committees and made a case for what we do and I think they were satisfied with the work we do. Don’t forget that the last Assembly made the law, the Electric Power Sector Reform Act, which mandates certain behavior. It gives NERC the power to periodically review tariffs. So we have a methodology that says if x happens, we should do this. So what we’ve done is to carry out a function that the National Assembly asked us to do by law.
As a lawyer, I do know that we would be totally against the law if we don’t do what the law asks us to do. Right now, it is left for the National Assembly to look at the tariff and if they have any question concerning where this tariff sows not protect public interest, they can ask us to explain and I would be very glad to explain. So it is just to save the sector and get the country moving forward.

So is it safe to say the House of Reps has seen reasons why the tariff should be increased?

We made a presentation on how do we make tariffs…it is very clear, we are not giving the operators a rude fall, we are providing a favourable pricing mechanism to encourage investments and we got their resolution (the resolution of the House) a day before we were to issue out the tariff. The tariff was concluded, it was just the announcement.
NERC did not go out to disobey them, NERC simply carried out its work on assumption that this is what the law has mandated and that if there’s any other enquiry, we will provide it. We have always been obedient and compliant about giving information. I think they understand our handicap. We have to go ahead and alllow the market have a breather of fresh air in order to save the sector.

People wonder why you had to wait till the twilight of your administration before announcing the tariff increase instead of announcing it earlier and helping to make it mature before the expiration of your tenure.

I think the answer is simple. You must have a work plan that requires several back and forth. For example, we should have issued this tariff weeks ago, but we discovered that the rate of the increase was higher and that we can benchmark it lower and we needed to get back to the Discos. NERC is a transparent and participatory organisation. So what we do is that when we want to take a decision, we go back to the Discos. It was a week after we invited them that we increased the tariff. We showed them what we wanted to do. We told them “zero fixed charge for all customers. Go back and work it out for us. In fact, we received a final model from the Discos on Friday evening (last week) and on Saturday, we signed off that part. So it wasn’t timed to end without exit.
But close to our exit, all was set and we couldn’t just walk away and throw the market into confusion and say: “if Sam Amadi and his people were not re-appointed, if you appoint new people, let them grapple with the nonsense of going back to undo and understand the system.” Having seen the work two days before we exit, we felt comfortable that we could sign off the tariff because we had finished all consultations with government, with market back and forth; all things had been worked out. So the right thing to do as a leader is to take a decision and that decision is in the interest of the market…don’t forget the NERC simply means the commissioners.
The law says NERC shall be constituted by the commissioners and the commissioners are to make decisions. The commissioners have to make decisions, understand the process. So we felt that this major policy needs to be signed off since we have finished every process. We’ve gone back and forth many times. We could have issued it weeks or a month ago, but we were very painstaking to deal with the impact of the removal of fixed charge, to deal with impact of metre rule-out, to deal with the impact of no billing for customers who have not been metred in 60 days. We worked out all the impacts mathematically, we worked out in terms of policy implications and we felt we have provided the safeguard and on that day, all was done. And then we signed off.

Was there any time you had a court order restraining you from this recent increase?

No, if there was an order, we would not go further; a regulator has to be law abiding. We cannot be reckless and disobey court order.

You were recently quoted as saying distribution companies engage in overbearing and charging of flat rates due to the absence of effective metering system which you said must be addressed in the nearest future. Has that been addressed?

The distribution companies must metre their customers and two things came up from it. One, if you don’t metre your customers, it is at your own risk; because if you bill them and they dispute that bill, they don’t need to pay for that estimatedbilling anymore, they would pay for the historic bill that they think is certain. If today, I’m billed N200 and I pay and tomorrow they issue me N4,000 and I dispute, I have to go to the NERC dispute system and once I go there, I am not bound to pay (the estimated bill) anymore. When you are disputing, nobody should disconnect you because you are protected to pay what you have been paying historically. In other words, we are pushing back the incentive on the Discos to metre their customers. If you don’t metre, then you run the risk of losing revenue. So we have made the best use of a bad situation. Final word, Discos, go and metre; if you don’t metre, you run the risk of losing revenue.

Has this policy taken effect?

These policies are contained in the Tariff Order, they take effect immediately, but new tariff takes effect from February 1st. We understand the optics and the politics of New Year. We’ve learnt from history and we have decided that this new tariff takes effect from February. People come back from Christmas and end of year parties and are financially drained and are not going to confront a new tariff from day one.

Taliban Bomber Stage Attack Close To Kabul Airport

Taliban Bomber Stage Attack Close To Kabul Airport

The attack comes a day after Pakistan’s army chief, General Raheel Sharif, visited  to discuss peace talks with the Taliban. “Both sides agreed that the first round of dialogue between Afghanistan, Pakistan, US and China will be held in January to lay out a comprehensive roadmap for peace,” the Afghan presidential palace said in a statement.
Earlier this month, a suicide bomber attacked a joint Afghan-NATO convoy near Bagram airbase outside Kabul, killing six US soldiers and wounding three others. Afghan forces are currently battling to push out Taliban fighters who seized large swaths of the key, opium-rich district of Sangin in southern Helmand province.
US President Barack Obama announced in October that thousands of US troops would remain in Afghanistan after 2016, back-pedalling on previous plans to shrink the force and acknowledging that Afghan forces were not ready to stand alone.

Woman Jailed For 2 Years Over False Claims About Being defiled

Woman Jailed For 2 Years Over FalseClaims AboutBeing

A young woman who falsely claimed she had been hauled into bushes and defiled twice by the same man in the same park five months apart has been jailed for two years. A court heard former Edinburgh Academy pupil Naima Shereen Mirza, 21, ‘spun a web of lies and deceit’, causing police to waste hundreds of hours investigating her malicious allegations.  Officers became suspicious when Mirza named her attacker as a man from Perth, who was actually in jail at the time the alleged offences took place, which was when she was a pupil at Edinburgh Academy.
After searching her property, they found a journal where she documented her increasingly alarming thoughts and fantasies, including the names and offences of defilers and s*xual offenders from around Scotland. She later told detectives she concocted the attacks to explain her poor exam results after failing to get in to Strathclyde University, in Glasgow. Mirza denied that on various occasions between May 15, 2012, and April 2, 2013, she falsely represented to police officers and civilian operators at the 999 service that she had been sexually assaulted and defiled in Edinburgh’s King George V park.
But a jury of 12 women and three men found her guilty after a nine-day trial earlier this month at Edinburgh Sheriff Court. The first police officer to interview Mirza was DC Lesley Robertson of the Public Protection Unit on May 15.  She described how Mirza sat with her hair over her face as she talked to her and ran out of the room several times.  She said she found her behaviour quite strange. ‘I had concerns about her hiding her face and running out of the room’ she said. ‘I had the impression it was very well planned. I didn’t see any real distress or anything like that’.
She said she wanted to do an extra year at school as she thought she had not done well in the exams. The court heard she did well in one exam however, getting 80 per cent for Drama. Sentencing Mirza, Sheriff Michael O’Grady QC told her: ‘In many years in these courts in one capacity or another, I have come across the whole range of hateful, hideous and downright bizarre things that people do to each other and the world at large. ‘But I doubt, however, in all that time that I have encountered a course of conduct so strange, so needless and so hard to fathom as yours.’

Nigeria’s 4 Refineries Repositioned To Produce 10m Litres Of PMS Daily – Minister

Nigeria’s 4 Refineries Repositioned To Produce 10m Litres Of PMS Daily – Minister

The Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, said the nation’s refineries had been repositioned to produce not less than 10 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, per day.
fuel
Kachikwu stated this on Sunday during his official visit to Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC).
According to him, the mission of the visit was to ascertain the current state of the refinery and identify areas of challenges for the workers at the refinery.
“A lot of work has been done and a lot manpower have been put in place. But a lot still needs to be done in order to put this refinery to work continuously and reliably,” he said.
He noted that a lot of progress has been made in terms of availability of fuel in the various cities and towns as the long queues are fast disappearing from the filling stations.
While commending the management of KRPC for keeping the refinery working for more than a week now, he however said there was room for improvement so as to move the current production level from 1.5 million litres to 2 or 3 million litres per day.
He expressed confidence that with more refineries coming on stream the fuel supply situation will continue to improve in the country.
While fielding questions later from newsmen, the minister said the Federal Government was doing all it could do to ensure the subsidy on fuel is resolved without inflicting more pains on ordinary Nigerians.
“Everybody is on the same page that we need to get out of it; should we sale product at a certain price or should we let free market rolling so that we can sky rocket prices,” he said.
According to him, the President says that product should go for N87 per litre for now and that he has given an approval to look at market trends and make adjustment if need be.
He assured that the administration was committed to ensuring adequate supply of petroleum products across the country.
The minister, who was received by the Managing Director of KRPC management headed by Mr Saidu Mohammed, was accompanied by top NNPC officials during the visit.

Policeman kills 4 people including twin brothers and himself (Graphic)

Policeman kills 4 people including twin brothers and himself (Graphic)

According to reports, a drunk policeman, Stephen James, on Saturday shot and killed three men at a hotel in the Ketu area of Lagos State. He shot and killed twin brothers identified as Taiwo and Kehinde Oyesunle (who were the only children of their mother) and their friend known simply as Jeje.

The tragic incident took place outside the premises of Paulson Hotel on Anibaba Street around 4:20pm.
According to eyewitnesses, trouble started when the police sergeant Stephen James threatened to shoot customers if they failed to buy him an alcoholic drink. The policeman, who was said to be a habitual smoker of marijuana, became upset when the twins- Taiwo and Kehinde and their friend, Jeje – cautioned him about his excessive drinking and advised him to act like a responsible policeman.
According to eyewitness account, as the trio stepped outside the hotel premises where they had gone to celebrate Jeje’s birthday, the Policeman shot and killed them. When he realized what he had done, the policeman reportedly shot himself in the chest.
A guest at the hotel, who witnessed the killings, told SUNDAY PUNCH that the policeman had boasted about wanting to kill people hours before the incident happened.
The customer, who identified himself only as Femi, said all efforts to pacify the policeman proved abortive as he kept fomenting trouble and harassing visitors with his gun all afternoon.
He said:
“I was in the bar when the policeman first came in and threatened to shoot customers if they failed to buy him drinks. He boasted that he felt like killing someone today, but other customers and I pleaded with him.
“When the three guys walked in and sat, he went to them and threatened them too. But the guys told him to calm down that they would take care of him but he should comport himself as a responsible police officer.
“Nobody knew he took offence with their statement. The police officer shot the three guys one after the other as they stepped outside the hotel before killing himself. The whole thing happened like a movie,” he said.
Another resident Ladipo Idowu said that the policeman was known to cause trouble in the area.
He said James usually fired his gun indiscriminately and the residents had warned the hotel authorities to caution him.
Another eyewitness, Dada Salawu, said, he was passing by when he saw the policeman and the three friends exchanging words. He said hardly had he left the area when the policeman opened fire on the victims.
A former girlfriend to one of the slain twins told SUNDAY PUNCH that they were the only children of their parents.
The lady, who was inconsolable as she spoke to one of our correspondents, said the twins were still mourning the death of their father who passed away in June 2014 when their lives were cut short.
She said:
“I called them very early on Saturday morning not to go outside their compound after I dreamt of seeing blood. I called them again at about 2:00pm to warn them. The twins, however, decided to drive a vehicle a relation had just bought at about 3:00pm. They drove to Paulson Hotel.”
The Sports Utility Vehicle which the victims drove was still parked in front of the hotel.
An angry mob, which later gathered at the scene of the tragedy, attempted to burn down the hotel and destroy properties within its premises.
As irate youths threw bottles and stones at the hotel, lodgers ran out of their rooms with their luggage and fled the scene. The hotel has been reportedly deserted by staff and guests.
The youths also wanted to burn the corpse of the policeman, but policemen, who later got to the scene pleaded with them.
Policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer of the Ketu Police Station arrived at the scene at about 5.30 pm to carry the corpses away.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Joe Offor, confirmed the killings but said he had not yet received the full details of the incident.
DSP Joe Offor said:
“The policeman was on duty at that hotel. He was attached to Mopol 22, Ikeja. He was drunk while on duty and he acted under the influence of alcohol.”

CBN To Allocate Forex To End Users Until Further Notice

CBN To Allocate Forex To End Users Until Further Notice

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will henceforth allocate foreign exchange to end-users, with priority given to matured Letters of Credit, importation of petroleum products, raw materials and machinery. However
The Director of Monetary Policy of the CBN, Mr. Moses Tule, disclosed this in Abuja, at the weekend, noting that under the new regime, those who take pleasure in wasting the nation’s foreign exchange in shopping abroad would find it increasingly difficult.
“Our priority as a nation for the allocation or use of foreign exchange is for the settlement of matured Letters of Credit, LCs, that have been opened for importation; for the importation of petroleum products until such a time when we have our refineries fully operational and we are not in a position to import fuel again to ensure that the wheels of economic development continue turning and running and for the importation of raw materials.
“By the time we meet these three priority areas, you will discover that people who are using their debit cards overseas for shopping can never be on the priority list.
“We do understand that it may not be all that the demands will be for shopping. We have seen that the reserves are not there and what we have we will use essentially for the purposes that will keep the wheels of the economy running. We have to produce for export, we can’t continue to depend only on the export of crude oil,” Tule said.
He expressed CBN’s sympathy with Nigerians on the ban of the use of debit cards abroad, but noted that there was nothing the institution could do on its own to change the nation’s foreign exchange earnings, which largely depends on oil receipts.
“It is a healthy development where Nigerians can no longer use debit cards abroad. But it is inconvenient. Right now the country is going through very difficult times because of developments in the oil market. Foreign exchange under the condition Nigeria has found itself has become a seasonal commodity. Seasonal in the sense that it depends on the movement of the price of oil. If oil prices are high, then we build reserves, if oil prices are low, then we have no reserves and we will be in a crisis situation.
“Does the CBN sympathize with the situation Nigerians find themselves not being able to use their debit cards outside the country? Yes the CBN certainly does sympathize with the hardship Nigerians are facing, but can the CBN stop it? The CBN cannot stop what the banks are doing now and the reason is very obvious,” he said.
Mr. Tule indicated that the policy would not be reviewed any time in the short term, as according to him, the reserves which currently stand at about $29 billion would have to be built up to a figure of around $50 billion before free use of the foreign exchange could be restored.

Bayelsa: Southern Ijaw Youths Vow To Vote For Dickson

youths of Southern Ijaw LGA of Bayelsa state have declared total support and re-affirmed their resolve to vote massively for Governor Henry Seriake Dickson in the re-scheduled January 9 election in the area.
The youths, represented by the presidents of the various communities in the local government area, during an enlarged meeting with Governor Dickson in the government house, Yenagoa, premised their support for him on his sincerity of purpose and sterling leadership qualities in the almost four years of the restoration government. According to them, Dickson has proved himself as a worthy leader, whose achievements will stand the test of time, particularly in the areas of security, infrastructure development and human capacity building.
Governor Dickson urged them to mobilise their people and vote massively for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the party has already won the election, despite the fact that INEC declared it inconclusive.
In a press statement by Daniel Iwariso Markson, the chief press secretary to Governor Dickson, the governor expressed gratitude to the youths for their show of solidarity, noting that victory is not complete until the southern Ijaw election is won by the PDP, as the party represents the overall interest of the Ijaw people.
He said: “The APC is afraid of defeat that is why they decided to mar the poll with violence, in spite of that, be peaceful and conduct yourselves properly during the forthcoming poll, as all your leaders are behind the party.

Anglican Bishop Urges Buhari To Extend Anti-graft War To Corrupt Past Leaders That Are Still Alive

Anglican Bishop of Western Izon Diocese, Delta State, Rt. Rev. Edafe Emamezi says for the anti-graft crusade in the country to yield the desired result, President Muhammadu Buhari has to extend it to all corrupt past political office holders that are alive.
“The love of money and power are the things that are dividing Nigeria,” Emamezi said in his homily, yesterday at the diocesan headquarters in Patani, Patani Local Government Area of Delta State.
However, Emamezi said it was very important that Nigerians support the anti-corruption crusade.
He also urged them to put aside their ethno-religious differences and imbibe the spirit of reconciliation in order for them to be united.
“Nigerians should use this occasion of celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ to be on the part of unity through forgiveness and reconstruction,” Emamezi said.
